Micky Ward (Mark Wahlberg) is an Irish-American welterweight boxer from a working class family in Lowell, Massachusetts. Managed by his mother, Alice Ward (Melissa Leo), and trained by his older half-brother, Dicky Eklund (Christian Bale), Micky has not had a particularly successful career: He’s become a “stepping stone” for other boxers to defeat on their way up. Complicating matters, Dicky, a former boxer whose peak of success was knocking Sugar Ray Leonard down in an HBO televised match, has fallen apart since his early success, becoming addicted to crack cocaine. Sing (Stephen Chow) is a master of Shaolin kung fu, whose goal in life is to promote the spiritual and practical benefits of the art to modern society. He experiments with various methods to inform the modern world about shaolin kung fu, some of which include comedic song and dance routines, but all bear no positive results. He then meets “Golden Leg” Fung (Ng Man Tat), a legendary Hong Kong soccer star in his day, who is now lame owing to the treachery of a former teammate Hung, now a rich businessman. Sean Boswell (Lucas Black) is involved in a crash during a local street race. Because of his numerous brushes with the law in the past, his mother sends him to Tokyo, Japan, to live with his father, who is stationed as a U.S. Naval officer. Upon arriving at his father’s home in Tokyo, he is warned by his father not to stir up any trouble, or he will return to the U.S. to serve jail time. Sean meets Twinkie (Bow Wow), a fellow American, who introduces him to the drift racing scene. Sean has a verbal confrontation with Takashi (Brian Tee) – also known as DK (short for Drift King) and nephew to a local yakuza boss – because he was talking to DK’s girlfriend, Neela (Nathalie Kelley). After allowing fugitive Dominic Toretto to evade arrest in the first film, former LAPD officer Brian O’Conner finds himself on the run and leaves Los Angeles for Miami to start a new life.
